The program begins at 6:15 p.m. You´ll hear updates from campus and gain insights into the Together Hawkeyes campaign from Barbara Wilson, University of Iowa President, and Sheila Baldwin, UI Center for Advancement President and CEO.

Stories are more than a way to entertain — they’re a powerful tool for building connection, communicating ideas, and making information stick. From classrooms and workplaces to brands and everyday conversations, the ability to tell a compelling story can help us engage audiences, build trust, and make our messages more meaningful.
In this session, Tippie College of Business faculty members Rebecca Krause-Galoni and Nick Westergaard will explore the power of storytelling through research and practice. Rebecca will share insights from her research on how and why stories connect with audiences, while Nick will take us inside Story Lab at Tippie and the work we’re doing to help students develop storytelling as a critical business skill. Together, they’ll explore what makes stories work — and why storytelling matters more than ever in how we communicate, lead, and connect.
Career Connect Calls are one-hour Zoom calls where Graduate & Professional Programs students can connect and network with others in the Iowa MBA, Part-time Master of Business Analytics, Part-time Master of Finance, and/or Professional Certificate programs. These calls recur once per month at 12:00 p.m. CT. October's call will feature recent alum Melissa Pepper (MBA18). Melissa is a strategic executive and trusted advisor who helps CEOs, executive teams, and boards navigate growth, innovation, organizational transformation, and succession.
Most recently, Melissa served as Chief Strategy Officer at Russell, where she led enterprise strategy during a period of significant growth. She oversaw strategic planning, marketing, business development, innovation, and corporate strategy while leading enterprise initiatives in artificial intelligence, talent strategy, mergers and acquisitions, leadership development, and succession planning. Her work consistently focused on translating ambitious vision into measurable business results.
Melissa is also the founder of Lead(h)er, a nonprofit organization committed to developing and connecting women leaders. Since its founding, the organization has served more than 1,400 women through mentorship, professional development, and leadership programming.
A respected community leader, Melissa serves on the MercyOne Genesis Board of Directors, is Vice Chair of The Cultural Trust, and serves on the President’s Advisory Council at Augustana College. Her leadership has been recognized with the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal Women of Influence Award and selection to the Iowa 500, recognizing the state’s most influential business leaders.

In this keynote, George will focus on how to apply AI in the real world. He'll introduce practical applications of AI and show how professionals can use AI tools and agents to streamline tasks, support analysis, and enhance productivity in both professional and personal contexts. Additionally, George will highlight transferable examples of how AI is being used to reduce manual work, accelerate response times, support cybersecurity decision-making, and automate routine processes.
Together, he'll explore the growing role of agentic AI, including how AI agents can be designed to gather information, evaluate options, collaborate across tasks, and produce usable outputs.
